Check out our reviews…

With every show comes a theatre critic. Most of the plays and pantomimes we perform are reviewed by local adjudicators and posted online for the world to see. Here are some of the wonderful reviews we have received over the years!

Association of Community Theatre (ACT)

ACT is the umbrella organisation that supports its members by sharing information, offering assistance ad advice where required, and promoting individual member societies throughout the North West.

ACT come out to visit our performances at The Bollington Arts Centre and kindly review each show for us. Each review can lead to nominations and awards being given to the society and individual performers, which we are extremely grateful to receive.

Pratt of the Argus

Directed by: Diane McIntyre, Craig Harris and Richard Comish - October 2018

“Richard Comish relished his roles, especially that of suave Denzil Ackerman. He had great facial expressions for all his characters, and “outrageous” vocal changes.”

Sinbad The Sailor… His 8th Voyage

Directed by: Stephanie Evans, January 2019

"There were plenty of knock-about action from Kristina Lisle (Sally Snickers) and Giles Gaddum (Timbad the Tailor), two newcomers to pantomime. They engaged with the audience helping the them to feel part of the proceedings."

Breaking the Code

Directed by: Barrie Goodwin - October 2019

"Michael Scott was totally captivating as Turing: there was strength in this performance. This performance left me, and others around me, quite overwhelmed at the conclusion of the second act. Bravo!"

Association of Community Theatre, 2019

"I went with my family last night. What an incredible show. They could stand up with any stage actors in the West End. I was moved to tears. Fabulous!!"

Hansel and Gretel

Directed by: Stephanie Evans & Lynsey Cooper - January 2020

"In the title roles of Hansel and Gretel, Andrei and Rose gave confident and natural performances of the two siblings. They were great at projecting their voices so that the audience could hear everything."

Association of Community Theatre, 2020

Jack and the Beanstalk

Directed by: Stephanie Evans - January 2022

"The title character of Jack was confidently portrayed by Freya Griffiths, who looked exquisite as a Principal Boy. There was an innocence to trusting Jack but when courage was needed there was a strength to the character that this actor brought out."

Association of Community Theatre, 2022

"Well done everyone, fabulous show! Great to see you all back on stage! "

A Man for All Seasons

Directed by: Barrie Goodwin - October 2022

"Craig Harris gave a super performance as the central character, Thomas More. The dialogue was given with confidence and expression: we knew his feelings of hope, weariness, virtue, protectiveness, all of which endeared him to the audience and created the sense of sympathy."

Cinderella

Directed by: Helen Royle & Stephanie Evans - January 2023

"Rebekah Tomkinson was engaging and expressive as Buttons. There was humour and cheekiness in her line and gag delivery that had the audience giggling: a thoroughly enjoyable performance to watch."

Association of Community Theatre, 2023

The Farndale Macbeth

Directed by: Rebekah Tomkinson - October 2023

“The three witches are iconic in the original play with their warnings and spells. Here, the three, Samantha Wightman, Pia Warburton and Amanda Rosenberg, provide some of the comedy with false noses, forgotten words and in the case of Amanda all the injuries suffered from a broken arm and ultimately ending up on a wheelchair.”

Association of Community Theatre, 2023

Robinson Crusoe and the Pirates

Directed by: Stephanie Evans and Ashley Hamp - January 2024

“Fabulous show, great performances from all. Well done!”

Denise, Audience member

A stand out performance from one so young was provided by Finlay Armstrong as the evil pirate, Cut-Throat. He positively relished the interaction with the audience as they booed and hissed at his nastiness. He actively encouraged more audience participation.”

Balckadder II - Bells, Beer & Chains

Directed and Adapted by: Rebekah Tomkinson - October, 2024

“Simon Mayo’s portrayal of Baldrick was a comedic highlight of the production, fully embracing the character’s dimwitted charm and lovable cluelessness.”

Katy from Association of Community Theatre, 2024

"It was absolutely brilliant- I didn't stop laughing all the way through. Big congratulations to an amazing cast, crew and director.”

Cheryl, Audience Member

"(Lynsey) Cooper captured the Queen’s unpredictable mood swings with great comedic timing, effortlessly switching between moments of royal arrogance and playful mischief. Her energy was infectious, and she dominated the stage with a commanding presence that made her character’s whims both amusing and compelling."
